Landscaping & Design-Build in Spokane, WA

Automated Lawn & Pest Control designs and builds landscapes for homes and rental properties across Spokane and Coeur d'Alene: paver patios and walkways, steps, retaining walls, concrete curbing, rock and mulch beds, planting and smart irrigation. Every project is locally designed and professionally built, with one point of contact from the first site visit to the final walkthrough.

What we build

Patios, Retaining Walls, Curbing & Planting

Most projects combine several of these. We design them around your yard, your budget and how you use the space.

  • Paver patios and walkways. Seating areas and paths cut and laid to fit the space, like the corner patio with a bench on our South Hill renovation.
  • Steps. Steps set into the grade where the yard changes level, like the stairs to a mulch play area on a new-home install.
  • Retaining walls. Walls that hold back a slope and create level ground for beds, lawn or a patio.
  • Concrete curbing. Curbing poured in place on a gravel base, for a clean, durable border between lawn and beds.
  • Rock and mulch beds. Black basalt, river rock or mulch over the planting beds, which helps hold moisture in and weeds down.
  • Planting. Trees, shrubs and perennials chosen for the spot and the Inland Northwest climate, from new front beds to boxwoods lining a front walk.
  • Lawn areas. Lawn shaped into the design and edged with curbing, with the ground prepped for seed.
  • Smart irrigation and drip. A Wi-Fi controller, sprinkler zones for the lawn and drip lines for beds and trees, planned with the landscape instead of added after it.

How it works

Our Landscape Design & Build Process

Four steps from the first site visit to the final walkthrough. You see the plan and the estimate before any work starts.

  1. Free consult and site visit

We meet on site, take measurements and talk through your goals and budget. Expect a realistic conversation about timeline and cost.

  2. Design and estimate

You get a concept plan, material options and a clear estimate. The proposal can include a 3D rendering, so you see the yard before work starts. We adjust the plan until it fits your goals.

  3. Build

We order materials, schedule the crew and handle permits when a project needs them. The site stays tidy, and you get regular updates while the work is underway.

  4. Walkthrough and care

We walk the finished project with you, make sure you're happy and go over how to care for it. Want ongoing maintenance? We'll set that up.

Before and after

A Landscape Renovation on Spokane's South Hill

Before: bare dirt front yard of a blue ranch house with a yellow door and a new cedar fence
Before
After: the same blue house with dark rock beds, two large boulders, shrubs along the walkway, a curbed lawn and a young tree in a curbed ring
After

Bare dirt to a low-maintenance front yard

This South Hill property started as bare dirt. The client saw a 3D rendering with the proposal, then let our team run with the design: concrete curbing on a gravel base, rock beds, two large Montana rose crystal rocks as focal points, boxwoods along the front walk and new lawn, all watered by a Wi-Fi smart irrigation system with drip lines for the beds and trees.

“We hired Automated Lawn & Pest to do some landscaping in our backyard using rainbow river rock and using our old brick to make a path from our storage shed. … We were kept updated regularly on when they would come and when they would be back. We really appreciated the communication because we have not experienced that with other project contractors we’ve had in the past.”

Questions

Landscaping Questions

How much does landscaping cost in Spokane?

It depends on the size of the project, the site and the materials. Site prep, soil and drainage work, retaining walls, material choice (pavers or natural stone), irrigation and labor all move the number. Automated Lawn & Pest Control prices every project from a free on-site consult, so you get a real estimate for your yard instead of a guess. Book a free consult.

Do you design the landscape or just install it?

Both. You get a concept plan, material options and an estimate, and the proposal can include a 3D rendering like the one for our South Hill renovation. You can be as involved as you like: on one new-home install, the family chose the plants and trees themselves.

Do you build retaining walls in Spokane?

Yes. Automated Lawn & Pest Control builds retaining walls as part of landscape projects in the Spokane area, to hold back a slope or create level ground for beds, lawn or a patio. Our guide to hiring a landscaper for a retaining wall walks through what the process involves.

Can you put in sprinklers with a new landscape?

Yes, and it's easiest to plan both together. We can add lawn zones, drip lines for beds and trees and a Wi-Fi controller as part of the project; see sprinkler installation. One of our new-home landscape installs started as a sprinkler install and grew into a full landscape.

Do you landscape rental properties?

Yes. For one rental, a budget refresh with low-maintenance plants, black basalt rock beds and a simple brick border, kept up with weekly mowing, helped the unit fill faster than expected. See the rental curb appeal makeover and our commercial and rental property services.
