One pre-emergent application and four follow-up visits over the season, for the rock, bark and planting beds around your property.
- A spring pre-emergent. Applied once your beds are cleaned up in spring. It works like a blanket over the beds, stopping new weeds as the seeds sprout, before you ever see them.
- Four follow-up visits. We come back every 6 to 8 weeks through the season to check on the beds.
- Touch-up sprays. Foot traffic, animals and weather wear the barrier down over time, so any weeds that break through get spot-sprayed on the next visit.
- Rock and mulch beds. Basalt and river rock beds, bark and mulch beds, plus the planting beds around your shrubs and flowers.
How it works
Pre-Emergent vs. Post-Emergent Weed Control
The program uses both: a pre-emergent to stop new weeds before they start, and post-emergent touch-ups for the ones that get through.

When should pre-emergent go down on shrub beds in Spokane?

How often are shrub beds sprayed for weeds?
Every 6 to 8 weeks. The program is one pre-emergent application in spring and four follow-up visits over the season. At each follow-up we check the beds and touch up any weeds that have broken through.
Does pre-emergent kill weeds that are already growing?
No. A pre-emergent only stops new weeds as the seeds sprout. Weeds that are already up need a post-emergent treatment, which is what the touch-up sprays at the follow-up visits are for. If your beds are overgrown now, start with a spring cleanup so the pre-emergent goes down on clean beds.
Will my beds stay completely weed-free?
No program can honestly promise that. A pre-emergent barrier wears down over the season with foot traffic, animals and weather, and some weeds will find a way through. That's why the program doesn't stop at one application: we come back every 6 to 8 weeks to catch anything that breaks through.
Is shrub bed weed control the same as lawn weed control?
No. Shrub bed weed control is for rock, mulch and planting beds. Weeds in the grass are handled by our fertilization and weed control program, which feeds the lawn and targets lawn weeds.
